76/365 – Hungry for the Games

I love reading and I love watching movies. So it’s a tough call when you hear they are making a quadrilogy of movies based on a series of 3 books that you really want to read.
To read first or not to read?
Can I wait for the movies to actually hit the big screen before succumbing to the books?

Harry Potter = Read the Books first
Twilight = Read the Books first
Lord of the Rings = “Kind of” Read the Books first
Anything by Stephen King or John Grisham = Read the Books first
The Hunger Games = Time to give the screenwriters a chance to Shine 🙂

My verdict?
Not knowing anything about the plot of the movie… I loved it and thought the story performed really well on the big screen. Thoroughly entertaining and compelling and emotional. Oh yes… I cried even as the crazy lady was pulling Primrose’s name out of the bowl. 😛

But at the end of the day, I pay to be entertained and entertained I was 🙂
Now I am super excited to finally get around to reading the books… and I can tell you I will be reading book 2 and 3 before waiting for the movies to be released!!

28/365 – DISNEY!!!

A couple of years ago whilst babysitting my nephew Riley we started a Messina tradition. My husband and I love Disney movies. Especially the newer ones with their amazing technology of animation. I’m pretty sure it’s something to do with us just being big kids at heart. 🙂

So… while we were sitting in the cinema waiting for the movie “Up” to begin, Chris came up with a hair-brained scheme that every time we watch a Disney flick we need to put both our hands up in the air and cheer “DISNEY!!” right when Cinderella’s Castle appears on the screen. Riley was about 4 at the time and thought it was the best thing ever, thus it stuck. Every time we would watch a Disney movie all our hands would go in the air and we’d cheer out loud.

Xander has just been initiated into our crazy tradition as he has fallen in love with the movie “Tangled”. It is the first movie we’ve seen that can hold his attention for a whole hour!! It’s really quite amazing.  We’re not sure if Rapunzel and Flynn Rider remind him of mummy and daddy or if he just has a big crush on Rapunzel 😉 Especially Baby Rapunzel… I swear he sits there making goo goo eyes at the screen!! And yeah.. they would make a cute couple 😉

Thus Daddy has been trying and trying to get him to say “Disney” as he starts the movie. Up until this morning the best we had was double arms in the air. After all, the child is 19 months old and he still can’t say Mummy. The extent of his vocabulary is 10 words – Hello, Daddy, Rarrhhh, Uh-Oh, See ya, Ta, What’ssat, Yay, Wow and Woof woof. Oh and occasionally we get a Maaaaaamaaaaa which is normally associated with crying. nice.

So you can imagine my surprise when I started the movie this morning for him and I heard this little voice call out “diiiney”. I couldn’t believe it. So I started the movie again and again and he did it every time hahaha.. except then he completely preempted it and started saying it as soon as the screen turned blue!! As you can hear… mummy is way more excited than he is 🙂

What a cutie! Ahhh, good to see he has his priorities straight. Say Disney before Mummy, and eat and twirl at the same time!!

And here he is practicing with Daddy 🙂

Why do I get the feeling that maybe he’s just been tricking us this whole time? Maybe he CAN talk but chooses not to?? After all, it’s not as if mummy and daddy don’t talk and talk and talk and talk and talk…… hahahaha!!! 🙂
