77/365 – The All Seeing Bat

Pretty proud of my super creative hubby right about now! He submitted the above design in “The Dark Knight Rises” Tshirt competition being run by DesignbyHumans.com, and it has just been approved by the judging panel (which includes peeps from Warner Bros) to go into the judging rounds.

From the looks of the forum entries it sounds like they have pretty strict initial judging criteria. We’re led to believe that out of hundreds of submissions they only chose 23 in the first round of votable entries. Approved entries are uploaded in the order that they are received and the public are encouraged to vote for their favourite entries.
Submissions close on April 11th so there will be a few more rounds of entries uploaded for voting, which is cool because Chris entered a second submission which he is yet to hear if it has been rejected or approved.

The top ten entries all end up winners, but the BEST PART of the competition… or the bit that Chris is most excited about, is that if you get to the top ten then Chris Nolan himself (along with his WB team) gets to judge and then choose the ultimate 3 winning designs!!

So if graphic art, or tshirt art or the batman franchise is your thing, you should go check it out. There are a couple of really great designs there.

Or if you feel like you can spare two minutes, and you are the kind of person who would feel good about “making someone else’s day”, you could head here and vote for Chris’s design. (only if you think its cool enough to deserve a vote!!)

I get so excited when I ask him every night how many votes he has, and his face lights up when he says “I’m up to 103 votes!!” Can’t even imagine how stoked he’d be if he suddenly got another 20 votes in a day!!
That’s assuming I still have 20 readers… LOL!!

Anyways… If you get the chance to vote…. THANKYOU!!!! It means a lot 🙂

76/365 – Hungry for the Games

I love reading and I love watching movies. So it’s a tough call when you hear they are making a quadrilogy of movies based on a series of 3 books that you really want to read.
To read first or not to read?
Can I wait for the movies to actually hit the big screen before succumbing to the books?

Harry Potter = Read the Books first
Twilight = Read the Books first
Lord of the Rings = “Kind of” Read the Books first
Anything by Stephen King or John Grisham = Read the Books first
The Hunger Games = Time to give the screenwriters a chance to Shine 🙂

My verdict?
Not knowing anything about the plot of the movie… I loved it and thought the story performed really well on the big screen. Thoroughly entertaining and compelling and emotional. Oh yes… I cried even as the crazy lady was pulling Primrose’s name out of the bowl. 😛

But at the end of the day, I pay to be entertained and entertained I was 🙂
Now I am super excited to finally get around to reading the books… and I can tell you I will be reading book 2 and 3 before waiting for the movies to be released!!

75/365 – I.O.U

So… for the last six days have I been
a) Conducting a social experiment to not update my blog and see how many people comment on the lack of posts?
or
b) Conducting a personal experiment in which I am trying to not be perfect and not update for 6 days?

Ok, truth is, neither of the above is correct… although my mum did comment on my lack of posts when i saw her today 😉

I just have this funny thing in pregnancy where I hate technology and I don’t like to be anywhere near my laptop. I think it’s something to do with the heat radiating off it. Makes me feel nauseous.
Of course I probably could have blogged from my phone… but you know… then there was the tiredness.
Oh.. and my brain not working properly.
Sighhhh. This 365 thingy is HARD!!

Anyhow, no time to dilly dally! I still have another 5 posts to catch up on 😉

74/365 – Hoyts Win!!

Isn’t it the worst thing ever when you finally get around to wanting to use those gift vouchers you have, only to pull them out and realize they’ve expired!?
Things have been so topsy turvey in our household for the last few months, what with sickness of every kind, and DH and I have been meaning to go to the movies since his birthday in early feb. Finally we had a window of opportunity this weekend. Super awesome Aunty & uncle have offered to take the kid for a sleepover and we are free agents for the night.. At least until approximately 8pm when i will no doubt fall asleep from exhaustion as happens every night at the moment! So, an early movie it is 😉
We decide upon ‘The Hunger Games’ and I pull out our La Premiere gift pass, only to find that it expired at the end of February.
DEVASTATED!!
I’d bought the voucher as part of a fundraising campaign for my nephews school last year, so at least I figured my money hadn’t completely been wasted.

Anyways, luckily I have a beautiful friend who works at Hoyts and I thought I’d sound her out as to the likelihood of them accepting the voucher still, though out of date.
Imagine my surprise when she replied saying that most of hoyts vouchers have a months grace period on them, so I could use mine up until the end of March! HUZZAH!!!!!!!
So the moral of the story folks is not to throw away those out of date vouchers. At the very least call the company and ask if they can still be used.. And like me you may be pleasantly surprised!! 🙂

73/365 – addictive brilliant shine

20120322-212638.jpg

No, this isn’t a post about my theatre group. It’s a post about haircare.
I am not a girly girl. Never have been, and while it’s nice to dream that one day I might actually be trendy, the truth is, I never will be! So why do I care about hairproducts I hear you ask?
Indeed the hairdresser is lucky if I see them once a year, and usually that is on a special occasion like my birthday or to celebrate the birth of my child. You know… Those times of the year where you sigh and think “gahh, I s’pose I should make an effort to look decent.” And I rarely bother blowdrying or try to style my hair, it takes waaaay too long and what’s the point when it will get full of grease and metal dust at work anyways?
But I do happen to care about my shampoo. I DO care when cheap shampoo, no matter how yummy and fruity it smells, wont leave my hair feeling shiny and clean. I care NOT to spend exorbitant prices on high end shampoo, even if it does do a better job. And I DO especially care when you find an awesome relatively cheap shampoo that is AMAZING only to have the company seemingly take it off the market for almost a year. (insert frowny face here)

I was devastated when I couldn’t buy my favourite shampoo anymore. I had discovered it by accident when buying a travel size version for my trip overseas in 2009. I loved it so much that when I came home I continued to buy the larger sized version and not only did it smell great and clean so well and leave my hair shiny and smooth, it also had the added benefit of bringing back all those great holiday memories everytime I washed my hair 🙂

For some reason sunsilk took it off the shelf in 2011 and it got replaced with a new marketed version. Fail.
For a while I kept buying the travel sized versions.. But they were so expensive and I figured that I couldn’t do that forever, so the hunt for a new shampoo began. What a nightmare.
Until last week. When low and behold what should appear on my supermarket shelves??? MY SHAMPOO!!!!
My hair follicles are so happy they are bursting with shine!!
My task for next week… Go back to the store and buy in bulk… Just in case 😉

72/365 – madness

20120320-191145.jpg

When I was little my mum somehow ended up with a whole stack of ‘bad taste’ postcards. Probably purchased at a garage sale or the like 😉 This was by far the best of the bunch.
During my highschool years this postcard lived on my pin up board above my desk as a humerous companion for the dreaded hours of evening study.
During uni I think I had it stuck inside one of my theatre and drama files, because every little bit of madness was a blessing.
About 7 years ago I found it again and decided the absolute best place for it would be at work. So now it lives on the wall right in front of our main work desk, the heart of operations, and serves as a great reminder to our family business that while you don’t have to be mad to work here… It bloody well helps!! 😉

71/365 – Flower Power

My house is driving me insane at the moment. With a 20 month old tornado whooshing around it seems to be in a constant state of CHAOS!! And i honestly have no energy to keep it fresh and clean.

The only corner of the house that I find calming is Xander’s nursery. DH and I painted the entire room to look like an enchanted forest. In particular I love these smiley face flowers waving in the breeze near his change table. They were one of those “best creative mistakes I ever made”!! Originally in my sketches I had planned on us painting a little field of tall poppies or some other lifelike flower, but I was just having so much trouble sketching them out to look realistic that at the last minute I completely changed track and went for these whimsical beauties instead.

BEST CHOICE EVER!!!

Every time I look at the flowers I smile, and Xander does too!!

70/365 – Blog Fail

Oh Noooo!! There it is folks… Yesterday was the first day I missed my blog 😦

It is getting so hard to keep up with it at the moment. I think I have a good excuse though. Pregnancy symptoms are totally kicking my butt at the moment and after a full day of work I’m lucky if I’m still awake at 7pm.
So what was my excuse on a Sunday??… just plain old “all day” sickness.

BLERGGHHHH!!!!

69/365 – the first haircut

20120318-063604.jpg

We held out for as long as we could but for about the last 6 weeks now this kid has REALLY needed a haircut!! This crazy insane mop of curls had to go!!

20120318-064219.jpg

So down to our local hairdresser we went, no frills, take a number, 5 min later you’re done. Which was good because Xander was quite unsure of the whole process.

20120318-072649.jpg

20120318-072750.jpg

The first 3 minutes was good, but then he decided he needed to stand up to finish the procedure.

The hairdresser cut as much as she could with a squirming head in front of her and we walked out with a much shorter haired little boy!

68/365 – hungry allll the time

20120316-200815.jpg

One of my favourite lines from a movie was delivered by Zac Efron in ’17 Again’ – “I’m hungry ALL the time!”
I crack up every time I say it… Which at the moment is VERY often!!

My mum and dad went shopping at ikea today and all I could think about was MEATBALLS!!!! Yummmm!! Ikea meatballs are awesome. Not too sure why, probably because they’re cheap and so munchable after walking around the store and working up an appetite. Luckily they bought me a whole bag of frozen meatballs home so I got to satisfy my craving at dinner tonight! 🙂

Then later on in the day, working out on the factory floor, I was quite close to Dan as he was welding. Instead of smelling the usual molten metal, I suddenly got an insane whiff of Hungry Jacks!!! It smelled exactly like a grilled whopper burger! 😉 I’m not sure whether that was my brain working overtime or if it says something about the quality of Hungry Jacks Grills? Lol

Gahhhhh!! I’m hungry ALL the time!!
